It’s All About The Ring

Whether you’re newly engaged and about to head off with your main squeeze to the jewellery store, looking to, ahem, “upgrade”, or even if you’re just an engagement ring admirer from way back, you will be well aware that choosing THE ONE (the perfect ring I mean), is kind of a big deal. For the traditionalist it’s all about the cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight of that all-important sparkly rock. For the ultra-modern fiancée less is definitely more, with slim bands and minimal embellishment the current style-of-choice. And for the vintage aficionado, there is the all important decision: Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Edwardian, or Victorian? Decisions, decisions. To help you out we’ve put together a gallery of some gorgeous engagement ring styles to satisfy all brides-to-be.

Enjoy!

  1. Traditional Engagement Rings

If you’re a traditionalist, you probably already know everything there is to know about your perfect engagement ring’s Four 4’s, plus a 5th C – the cost! For those who haven’t done their research yet, here are a few key terms you should familiarise yourself with: cushion-cut, emerald-cut, asscher-cut, heart-cut, marquise-cut, oval-cut, pear-cut, princess-cut, radiant-cut, round-cut, baguette-cut, and trillion-cut. Oh, and don’t forget that less colour equals higher quality, more clarity equals less imperfections, and that a 1-carat diamond is made up of 100 points. Confused? Yep, I hear you.

  1. Minimalist & Modern Engagement Rings

In 2016, there’s a whole new style of engagement rings taking centre stage, and they are of the minimalist variety. Forget the big rock, if you are into minimal, modern style go for slim bands with small diamonds or gemstones inset, feast your eyes on the latest ‘half moon’ shaped rings, or splash out on a double band with nesting solitaire diamond linking them. You can even add some stacked rings in the middle or either side to take your modern bride look to the next level!

  1. Black & Gold Engagement Rings

If you’re not into bright colours or over-the-top sparkle, try a dark stone or gem. There are many dark stone options available including black opals, black diamonds, black pearls, black sapphires, black garnets, black onyx, black tourmaline, black moonstone, as well as jet, obsidian, and hematite, all of which look stunning paired with a smattering of white diamonds and my personal favourite metal – rose gold!

  1. Gemstone Engagement Rings

What better way to add personal style and flair to your wedding ring set than by incorporating your birth stone! Not sure what yours is? Here you go! January = Garnet, February = Amethyst, March = Aquamarine, April = Diamond (might be a tad easier to shop for!), May = Emerald, June = Pearl, July = Ruby, August = Peridot, September = Sapphire, October = Tourmaline, November = Citrine, December = Tanzanite.

  1. Vintage Engagement Rings

If you’re fan of all things yesteryear, you will love shopping for your vintage styled engagement ring! From Art Deco settings and etched metals, to floral motifs and miligrain bands, vintage will never go out of style and can add the perfect amount of old-world glam to your wedding day – and every day to follow! Not a fan of the (sometimes) huge price tag attached to true vintage pieces? You can opt to have a vintage-inspired engagement ring custom made, giving your wedding ring set an elegant, timeless, and unique look.

      6.   But don’t forget what it’s REALLY all about… the LURVE

While you’re researching and Google-ing and jewellery-store shopping and daydreaming and… sorry, got carried away. While you’re doing all of that, make sure that you keep in mind what your stunning new engagement ring actually represents: the forever-love you share with your hubby-to-be. Awwwwwwwwwwwww.

Which style of engagement ring is your fave?
